Resilience is like a rubber band—it’s the ability to stretch and bounce back from hardship. Organizational resilience is your company’s intentional approach to handling daily operations and challenges. It doesn’t happen by accident; it needs to be built and nurtured.
Why Traditional Solutions Are Anti-Organizational Resilience

The reality is clear:
39% of the global population is experiencing burnout.
Employee happiness is at a four-year low, according to SHRM.
Quick fixes like gym stipends and free Friday lunches aren’t solving the problem.
Organizations continue to invest in perks that sound great on paper but fail to create meaningful change.
The Problem with Transactional Solutions
One-off perks—bowling nights, goodie boxes, occasional lunch events—are well-intentioned but don’t foster true organizational resilience. Employees don’t need another chair yoga session; they need:
✅ Time to have dinner with their family
✅ The ability to maintain basic self-care
✅ A sustainable work-life balance
Moving Toward Transformational Solutions
The key to organizational resilience is shifting from transactional to transformational solutions. These aren’t one-time gestures but ongoing, structured initiatives that truly shift workplace culture.
Getting Started: Three Key Steps

1. Assemble a Committee
You can’t do this alone. Form a small team of passionate individuals who can help drive these initiatives. This doesn’t need to be a full-time commitment, but having a dedicated group ensures long-term success.
2. Identify a Budget
Determine what financial resources you can allocate. Whether it’s a few hundred or several thousand dollars, be intentional with your spending. Keep in mind:
A small budget doesn’t mean small impact.
Thoughtful spending is more effective than throwing money at perks.
Aligning your budget with real employee needs ensures long-term results.
3. Ask the Right Questions
Before making changes, take a step back and assess:
What has your company tried before?
What do employees actually want and need?
How committed is leadership to meaningful change?
Looking Ahead

Next week, we’ll break down the process and ROI of organizational resilience, helping you understand why this investment is critical for your company’s future.
There’s an old Chinese proverb:
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”
The same applies to organizational resilience—start where you are, with what you have.

Now, I'm going to tell you all about organizational resilience, but what I'm going to tell you first is that this is the thing that you don't realize that you need. It's the thing that you realize you don't need. It's as if, like, it's the air you breathe. Organizational resilience is critical.
And so some of you, I know there are some of you who listen to this and are very much focused on yourself, and that's amazing. And then there are some who listen to this and they're like, I need the tools and tips and tricks to really support my people. So I'm here to support all of it.

And you are listening to Billable Hour Burnout. On the show, I share simple tactics and mindset strategies specifically catered to women in accounting, consulting and law.
You ready? Episode 31. I love it. We are just clicking up and up and up and up.
So a little personal anecdote of mine is when life cans you, lemons, make lemonade. I had this really full schedule today and all my afternoon meetings canceled. So after this, after this live, I'm escaping. I'm going on an adventure because this is the last week of beautiful weather in the east coast and I have a feeling it's just going to get cold from here.
So I saw my calendar clear out and I was like, you know what? I think I'm going to spend the afternoon and go somewhere. So I'm not sure if I'm biking or hiking, but I know I'm going to be outside today.
So if you ever have a day like that... I used to be in the place where I would be really annoyed at the cancellations, and now I trust that they're for me. It's a whole different energy of like, oh, my gosh, this person canceled for the third time. Or this feeling. And I feel so good. Like, when it happens, I'm like, okay, now I can focus on this instead. Okay, that didn't happen. Now I get to prioritize something else.
I just take it as a sign from the universe that's like, hey, you get to change your priorities. So here, I'm going to help you. So thank you, universe, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful afternoon this week. And I'm going to take full advantage for everybody, and I'll even share my stories on Instagram.
So that's my personal anecdote. I don't know what else has been going on, but there's just been a lot of travel, a lot of conferences, a lot of California. A lot, a lot, a lot. And I'm happy to be back.
So let's get into today's story. Let's get into today's content.
Now, I don't necessarily, you know, I didn't pull a testimonial for today, but I am celebrating. I got my first fan girl moment. It was actually really sweet. It was a professional. She works in HR at a big bank. A big bank, you know, very well. And she supports 1300 attorneys in her firm and was like, you know, I have been listening to you. I follow all your things. I really appreciate you even taking this moment. And I was like, oh, so sweet. Like, I loved that she had been listening. I love that she knew had followed up on all my work. And I'm like, wow, I'm... There's so many of you out there. And when she did said all this, I'm like, we haven't even connected. And that's how this work is impacting her. And I'm just grateful.
So if this work is impacting you and it helps you personally or helps you professionally or helps your company, like, I'm so happy. That's why I do this.
Until next time, wishing you the best rest of your day. If your whole afternoon got canceled, maybe I'll see you on the trails. But for now, I'll talk to you soon. Take care.
