Ep #3: International Women's Day 2024 Edition Check-In

Updated: Jul 10

International Women's Day 2024

It's a great day to celebrate and recognize the achievements of women around the world. Welcome to our special International Women's Day edition of the Billable Hour Burnout Weekly Check-In. Today, we celebrate the incredible achievements of women while addressing the crucial issue of burnout.

At Acheloa Wellness, we draw inspiration from the Greek goddess Achelois, who focused on women's health and stress relief. Our mission is to help women reclaim their energy, clarity, and confidence.

Understanding Burnout: A Growing Concern

Burnout is a significant issue affecting women disproportionately. Recent statistics reveal that while burnout rates are plateauing, women continue to experience higher levels of stress and exhaustion compared to men. This disparity underscores the importance of providing targeted support and strategies to help women manage their stress and workload effectively. For more insights, check out our article on why women leaders burn out. Additionally, the rising burnout among women is an alarming trend that needs immediate attention.

Real Stories, Real Success

Let's delve into some real-life success stories of women who have transformed their lives through our programs.

Client AM: AM came to me feeling overwhelmed and anxious at her job. She was working long hours and was on anxiety medication. Through our work together, she found a new job with better balance and a significant pay bump. She moved off anxiety medication and built confidence, enabling her to thrive both professionally and personally. Today, she balances her career with family life and is on track for a promotion.

Client AC: AC faced personal loss and health challenges. We started slowly, focusing on self-care and improving her energy levels. Over time, she transitioned to a new role that empowered her to express herself and achieve success. Her health improved, and she found a balance that allowed her to thrive in her career and personal life.

Client CC: CC, a young lawyer, was struggling with confidence and working long hours. We focused on building her confidence, which led to better delegation and improved work-life balance. She transitioned to a new job with better pay and hours, allowing her to enjoy more free time and better sleep.

Happy International Women's Day. It's a good day, and I'm happy to be here with you. Happy International Women's Day to all the ladies, gentlemen, and everyone out there. If you've been on social media, you're seeing all the celebrations, and I want to add to the good energy going out in the world right now with this billable hour burnout weekly check-in.

I am live on LinkedIn, YouTube, and many places. I'm happy to be here. I like to talk about women and their achievements, so what better day than today on International Women's Day. Some of you are new to me, so I'll introduce myself in a moment, but let me introduce what I'm doing. This is billable hour burnout, so if you're looking for helpful tactical advice to achieve the career of your dreams without stress or overwhelm, you're in the right place.

If you want to enjoy the life you've been building, you're in the right place. If you're here, it means you're ready for more balance, ease, and confidence without quitting your job or burning down your life. I'm Lauren Baptiste, a former Big Four auditor/consultant/CPA turned life coach, helping the hardest-working women overcome and get rid of burnout.

On this show, I'm sharing simple tactics and mindset strategies specifically for modern accountants, consultants, and attorneys. You ready? Let's do it. International Women's Day edition.

I always start with a little anecdote. I love this time of year. Last year on this date, I did a virtual event for over 300 women. It was a good day. I'm still energized from that today. I had a restful rejuvenative day with a massage in the morning, lunch with a friend, and I'm seeing more people later. It's just good energy happening right now. But one question I get all the time is about Acheloa Wellness.

What is Acheloa? How do you say it? It's Acheloa. Acheloa Wellness is named after the Greek goddess Achelois, who focused on women's health and stress. When I was building my business, I wanted a name that resonated, and Acheloa was it. I have posts on my blog and Instagram about Achelois and what she stood for. It's a tribute to women globally and maybe otherworldly. I get this question often, so I like to remind everyone where the name came from.

Let me share a quick testimonial from my client, Kara, a CFAR principal accountant from Wyoming. She says:

"Lauren has helped me discover how to prioritize my own needs and stay grounded. As a result, I can think clearly, make decisions more easily, and be present for my loved ones. It wasn't an easy decision to invest in myself, but it was undoubtedly the best decision I've made for my personal growth and my happiness."

I love working with Kara. She's amazing. I share this testimonial because it's International Women's Day, and we need to celebrate despite some hard stuff we've seen this week. Women carry the burden at home and work. Many women are breadwinners, taking a lot of energy, holding down the fort at home, and financially supporting their families. We're kicking ass. But according to the state of workplace burnout 2024 report, burnout is plateauing. It's bittersweet depending on how you frame it. But it's disproportionate between men and women. Women experienced more burnout in the past year, while men experienced less. Women are climbing the career ladder, taking care of elderly parents, and managing stress. Burnout happens when self-care and well-being are neglected.

Instead of doom and gloom, let's keep the energy high and get real. If you haven't seen my post on Tuesday, it talked about an attorney firm partner who committed suicide. It's heartbreaking. She was an empowered mom, partner, and amazing woman who shouldn't have had to give her life away because of work. She worked 18-hour days for months, showing symptoms of burnout and overwhelm, but didn't feel comfortable raising her hand for help. She made one last attempt the day she lost her life, but couldn't get the support she needed.

I'm not going to dwell on doom and gloom, but we need to recognize the urgency. I'm speaking to the smartest women, who manage major meetings and sign big deals, yet are reluctant to prioritize their well-being. Burnout remains high for women. Energy is down, exhaustion is high, and productivity is decreasing. We're seeing a decrease in work-life balance, self-care, and confidence. Overworking and perfectionist tendencies lead to burnout, decreased confidence, and chronic stress.

If you feel overwhelmed, it's time to shift to "I can't take working like this anymore." I'm not telling you to quit your job. I've coached over 100 women who have stayed in their careers and found balance. It's possible with a shift in mindset and tactics. Old solutions won't solve new problems. We need new solutions to tackle the challenges we're facing.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, drinking more, experiencing indigestion, or facing anxiety or depression, it's time to do something better for yourself. Improving your well-being has a ripple effect on your family, team, profession, and community. Losing Vanessa Ford, the firm partner, is devastating. It's shocking to hear about such dark thoughts because there are resources to help manage. If you're here, you know life can be better, and you want more.

Now, let's move into celebrations while honoring Vanessa. I'll focus on three amazing clients who came to me feeling burnt out.

Client AM found a new job with better balance and a huge pay bump. She moved off anxiety medication, built confidence, and balanced her career and family life. She's thriving, on track for a promotion, and managing everything calmly.

Client AC overcame personal loss and health challenges by focusing on self-care and balance. She transitioned to a new role, empowered to express herself and achieve success. Her health improved, and she found balance in her personal and professional life.

Client CC improved her confidence, which led to better delegation and work-life balance. She transitioned to a job with better pay and hours, enjoying more free time and better sleep.

These stories highlight the importance of mindset and tactics to overcome burnout. You don't have to quit your career. Most of my clients stay in their careers and thrive. If you want to leave, do it proactively, not reactively.

My Freedom program is a six-month journey with five pillars: energy, strategy, clarity, harmony, and mastery. We start with burnout recovery, then goal setting, time management, confidence-building, and ensuring long-term success.
