Have you ever had one of those days when you find $20 on the floor, right after you had a stellar workout and someone did something nice for you? What about one of those days when you stub your toe in the morning, miss your train to work, and remember to pick up dry cleaning 5 minutes after the shop closes? Those best and worst days may actually be what you attracted.
Do I mean that you deserved a bad day? No. What I am saying, however, is that you may be creating the positive or negative environment that surrounds you; not the other way around.
At DYJ, we say that happiness isn’t a matter of circumstance, but instead, what you create for yourself. Happiness is a choice, and we’ll delve into the “law of attraction” to understand why.
How it works
Per Wikipedia, the law of attraction is used to sum up the idea that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life. Maybe you saw the movie Law of Attraction or read Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret. Both share the same powerful messages: what you think about becomes the life you’ll have.
Think about how you perceive the world. Is the glass half empty or half full? If one bad thing happens today, are you going to harp about that or be grateful for all the other wonderful things that happened instead? Thinking about negative things will attract negativity in your life. That’s what Byrne and others are saying about these laws of attraction.
Think about someone in your life who always seems to “have it all.” I’m sure that’s not quite the case, but even so, maybe it’s because you focus on your energy on making sure that’s the case. You may never notice that person’s normalcy because you’re focusing on their glories.
Your challenge
Next time you’re feeling a world of negativity overwhelming you, take a step back. Are you attracting negativity? In order to free yourself, you can start with small gestures to bring positivity back. Try holding the door for a stranger or giving a bit more next time you’re tipping on great service.
The beauty of the law of attraction is that you’re in the driver’s seat. You may not be able to determine what happens in your surroundings, but you can dictate the energy that comes to you. Focus on small positives, or even big ones. Over time, you’ll start to fathom and enjoy the gifts that the law of attraction has to give.
If you’re feeling the high of positive energy, then ride the wave. Happiness and success will come to you if you focus on bringing happiness and success into your life. It’s just that easy.
